Cagayan’s P3.4 billion 2018 budget submitted to prov’l board

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The 2018 proposed budget of the Provincial Government of Cagayan has been submitted to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Thursday, October 19.

In a press release, Cagayan Provincial Information Office (CPIO) said the Provincial Finance Committee, led by Provincial Planning and Development Officer Elisa Umoso, handed the P3.4 billion budget proposal to the office of Vice Governor Melvin Vargas Jr, presiding officer of the board.

Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba asked the board to scrutinize the budget well, as stated in CPIO’s press release.

The proposed budget for 2018 is P3,433,509,169.25.

In the proposal, the 2018 Annual Investment Plan (AIP) has a total allocation of P2,143,374,488.12.

Meanwhile, the 2017 AIP and budget are still being deliberated by the provincial board after various clarifications and issues were raised from the Provincial Development Investment Fund (PDIP).

The board approved the PDIP with reservations weeks back.

In previous sessions, oversight agencies such as the Department of Interior and Local Government and Department of Budget and Management said a budget without an approved PDIP and AIP is deemed “inoperative.”

Vargas has earlier stated that they will conduct “marathon sessions” in deliberating the 2017 AIP and the proposed budget, saying that the AIP is a basis in approving the annual budget.

The submission of the 2018 budget coincided with the first year anniversary of super typhoon Lawin’s devastation in the province. Northernforum.net
