P52-M Isabela-Quirino bridge opens to traffic

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The newly-completed bridge connecting Isabela and Quirino provinces has been opened to traffic, the Department of Public Works and Highway (DPWH) said.

The bridge, which was rated “poor” in 2016 by the DPWH district office in Isabela, has been replaced to play a major function in the interplay of agricultural, industrial and tourism growth in the said provinces, according to Melanio C. Briosos, DPWH Cagayan Valley regional director.

Briosos added that the project gives easy access to the public travelling to and from the two provinces.

He said the national government allocated P52.2 million for the construction of the new 50-lineal meter bridge including the additional 270 meter concreted approaches on both sides to compliment its reliability.

“The bridge is more durable which will benefit those who have been risking their lives and properties crossing the old ravaged Sisim bridge,” Briosos said.

The bridge, in partnership with the Advance Foundation Construction Systems Corporation (AFCSC), is envisioned to ensure continuous movement of goods and safer travel as it will promote socio-economic development and spur rapid growth in terms of economic and tourism activities in the area.

The bridge got its funding after the Regional Development Council endorsed for its replacement in 2016.

Engr. Jose Tobias, DPWH construction chief, said the deteriorating condition of the old Sisim bridge necessitates its immediate replacement in order to sustain the demands of transport activities in the area. Northernforum.net
