200 kids join JCI Tuguegarao Ybanag, Nuwangs club football fest

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Around 200 pupils from this city underwent basic football training in JCI Tuguegarao Ybanag with Tuguegarao Nuwangs Footbal Club’s “Festival of Football” program at Cagayan Sports Complex on Saturday, April 7.

Project Chair Nhayvie Labbao said the young athletes were trained by students from Cagayan State University Carig College of Human Kinetics and Tabuk City, Kalinga who underwent a three-day through basic football coaching course.

The coaching course started on Thursday, April 5, under outstanding football coach Ricky Enolva, Homer Fabian, and Froilan Cliff Sera, Labbao said.

Pupils aged 6 to 12 years old learned basic football skills through various drills in the said activity. Participants paid P20 for the training and food.

Labbao said an invitational football cup participated in by santiago, Cauayan, other football clubs within and outside the region will be held on Sunday, April 8.

Project Vice Chair Randolph Juan said JCI Tuguegarao Ybanag chose football in order to introduce and promote football in this city.

“We want to introduce football because we believe that it’s the world’s number one sport. We know po na through football, na ma-introduce dito at ma-train ang [mga bata ng] basic skills for football,” Juan said.

Aside from enhancing skills in football, Juan said they also want children to value discipline and camaraderie.

“Sa paglalaro nila ng football, matututo sila ng tamang disiplina. Ang mga batang ito po aside from madedevelop nila yung talents nila, madedevelop din nila yung camaraderie nila between and among schools dito sa Tuguegarao City and other neighboring towns,” Juan said.

This is JCI Tuguegarao Ybanag’s first of many sports-inclined activities for youth here in the city.

“JCI Tuguegarao Ybanag will always continue to develop the different fields of sports here in Tuguegarao City. Since we see this project successful po, we might have a second part of [training for] football and we might consider other sports,” Juan added.

JCI Tuguegarao Ybanag President John Escobar and coach Ricky Enolva hopes the program will be institutionalized, seeing a possible quarterly or monthly football grassroots training program for children in Cagayan in the future.

Enolva is also trainor of Tuguegarao City’s Secondary Football team which took home the championship in February’s Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association Meet here. Northernforum.net
