CAGAYAN, Philippines- The vice mayor of Marcos town in Ilocos Norte was injured after sustaining gunshot wounds after still unknown assailants Tuesday night, April 4.

Police said Marcos town Vice Mayor Jessie Ermitanio was shot in his leg and is now being treated at the hospital.

His driver Lucky Rumbaoa died in the hospital while his bodyguard and a municipal government employee were also injured in the shooting, police report said.

Ermitanio’s group was reportedly on their way home aboard a Toyota Fortuner when the gunmen attacked them in Barangay Ragas around 7:30 pm on Tuesday.

A Bombo Radyo report said Ermitanio reportedly saw two gunmen when he attempted to fire back using his armalite.

Police are now investigating the incident.

Ermitanio ran and won against former Mayor Salvador Pillos, who survived a slay try in February 2013, during the 2016 elections.

Marcos town was placed by the Commission n Elections (Comelec) as a hotspot for the last year’s election, this after mayoral candidate Alfredo Arce was killed in another shooting incident. –Northernforum.net
