TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- At least eight people died in drowning in Cagayan Valley rivers during the Holy Week, police reports said.
Reports reaching the Isabela provincial police said most of the drownings happened on Good Friday, April 14 and Black Saturday, April 15.
In Cauayan City, cousins Carla Jane Maramag, Rachel Domingo and Rhea Labog were drowned after they were take by strong current of Cagayan River on Saturday. Two of them were topnotchers in their elementary class and were supposed to graduate this April.
In Reina Mercedes town, Anthony Amin, 30, drowned after attending a drinking spree. His body had since been found.
In the same town, a body of a woman was found at the riversides of Barangay Napaccu Grande. The body has yet to be identified as of press time.
In Luna town, Glen Mey Dela Cruz, 19, remains missing after he jumped off a deep portion of the Lalog 2 River.
In Ilagan City, Gamu and Angadanan towns, Marvin Balisi, 27, Rodolfo Talamayan, 30 and Rolando Bautista, 45 also drowned in a portion of Cagayan River. All of them were reportedly drunk.
A still unidentified body of an old man was also seen lifeless at the rivers of Garit Norte in Echague town. –Northernforum.net
