Isabela mayor surrenders high-powered firearms

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Jones, Isabela Mayor Leticia Sebastian surrendered a number high-powered firearms with expired licenses reportedly owned by his slain brother, former Mayor Jesus Sebastian.

Senior Inspector Samuel Lopez, police chief, said Sebastian surrendered one Carbine with 11 pieces of bullets, M1 Garand with eight bullets and four caliber 76 firearms.

Sebastian’s brother-in-law, Carlos Rustia, and Jones municipal engineer Johnny Lazaro also turned in their caliber 5.56 and caliber 45 firearms. Both have licenses also expired.

The surrender is response to Isabela Governor Faustino Dy III Executive Order 21 in support of the police’s “Operation Bakal” program.

The operations is a campaign against loose firearms through regular conduct of checkpoints and visiting registered gun owners that have not renewed their firearms. TNF
