DepEd Tuguegarao to ensure Brigada Eskwela not ‘one time’

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Department of Education (DepEd) Division of Tuguegarao City has vowed to sustain the “bayanihan” started during the barangay-based Brigada Eskwela by monitoring schools’ development all-year round, an official said on Monday, May 28.

This city’s Education Program Supervisor for English Josephine Gammad said the division will supervise the cleanliness of schools through “active participation” of DepEd officials and other stakeholders.

“Sisiguraduhin natin na ang Brigada ay hindi one time. Araw-araw yan na may paglilinis at saka hindi lang paglilinis at hindi lang pagpipinta ang brigada. Ang brigada ay meron kayong minimithi para mapagbuklod ang lahat para sa kabutihan ng bawat isa,” Gammad said.

She added that the brigada is a way for people to become “conscious and aware” in participating in community activities.

“Lagi naman nating ginagawa ito noon pero ngayon nakikita n’yo talaga yung change sa bawat isa, yung willingness ng bawat teacher, ng stakeholders, ng parents, ng mga bata,” Gammad added.

Gammad supervised brigada in Linao National High School (LNHS) where the division’s management committee was also conducted.

“The importance of forging linkages between the community and the school has always been the driving force behind the Brigada Eskwela. Our learners thrive and flourish through the amount of care, dedication, and service that we provide them,” the supervisor told media.

Community bond

Under the directive of Schools Division Superintendent Denizon Domingo, the division will focus on maintaining the bonds formed between local communities and schools during brigada, Gammad said.

While teachers deliver “utmost quality education” to young learners, the community will make sure students get quality education in a “safe and secure environment,” she said.

“[Students] depend so much on the sincere connection that we create but more especially on the shared responsibility that we have towards the goal of achieving a brighter future for our children, the end beneficiaries, our learners,” she said.

DepEd brought this year’s synchronized brigada launch to the barangay level to gather all the stakeholders in preparing public schools for the start of classes on June 4.

Parents, teachers, barangay folk, and various stakeholders took their brooms, paint, brushes, and other materials to work together in the brigada’s launch on Monday.

“We really showed commitment, love, and care for not only our children but to the community as well…Kitang-kita n’yo na talagang lahat ay kumikilos… Tayo ay iisa ang papatunguhan at ito ay para sa kabutihan ng ating mga mag-aaral,” Gammad said.

Enough facilities, books

Meanwhile, Gammad assured that the division through Superintendent Domingo will provide enough facilities for all students this year.

She said additional chairs, books, and computer units are going to be delivered to this city in time for the opening of classes.

Despite the risks and other “facilitating factors,” Gammad said the division is “doing its best” to make learners “comfortable” in the coming school year.

“We are very proud na lahat ng schools ng Tuguegarao ang gaganda. Hindi lang physically, pati sa loob. We are trying our best to make the classrooms conducive and comfortable to the students,” Gammad said.

Further, Gammad said names of students will be posted outside classrooms to guide learners in their first day of schools.

“Iisa lang ang goal ng DepEd which is to prepare the school para agad-agad sa pasukan sa June 4, uumpisahan na ang lessons ng mga bata para may matutunan na sila agad, first day pa lamang,” she said.

DepEd Region 02 will conduct a press conference dubbed as “DepEd Dos in Focus” with Philippine Information Agency (PIA) on Wednesday, May 30, to further discuss preparations for the opening of classes next week. Northernforum.net
