Latest Typhoon Mangkhut track shows possible landfall in northeastern tip of Cagayan

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Typhoon Mangkhut, or locally named as Ompong, may make landfall over Gonzaga or Santa Ana town early Saturday, September 15, the state weather bureau said.

In its weather bulletin issued 11 am on Wednesday, September 12, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA said Mangkhut has intensified and will intensify further before its hitting Northern Luzon.

PAGASA said tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 may be raised over Eastern Luzon as early as Wednesday night or Thursday morning, September 13.

Mangkhut was last located 1,190 km East Northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, moving west at a speed of 20 kph.

It has maximum winds of up to 205 kph and gustiness of up to 255 kph.

US-based Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) already classified Mangkhut as super typhoon, packing up a maximum winds of up to 259 kph, and a gustiness of 315 kph.
