Even with political enemies himself, Governor Manuel Mamba has asked the two other district representatives of Cagayan, Ramon Nolasco Jr. and Samantha Lousie Vargas Alfonso to forget political disputes, bridge their gaps, and follow the steps of Congressman Joseph Lasam Lara.
The Cagayan Governor gave this remark during his speech on January 31 for the groundbreaking ceremony of the Amulung Bridge, a P1.2-Billion construction project connecting the east and west portions of the municipality.
During the election campaign, Lara promised to the constituents of Amulung a bridge that will eradicate their need to travel by boats and cross the Cagayan River just to get to the other side.
On his six month-long stay at the congress, Lara said he prioritized the legislation for the Amulung Bridge which had quite a few hardships along the way but was still championed on the end.
The bridge, with 901 meters and a 1.55 meter sidewalk on both lanes is expected to be finished in four years with the Department of Public Works and Highways taking the role as the primary implementing agency.
Specifically, the project will bridge Barangay Anquiray, where the groundbreaking ceremony took off, and Barangay Abolo where a lot of students enrolled in Amulung National High School live in.
Furthermore, the bridge can serve as a farm-to-market road not only for the farmers of Barangay Abolo, but also to other neighboring barangays as well which will remove their need to take the Solana-Amulung route just to deliver and transport their harvest.
Amulung Mayor Elpidio Rendon said that the people of Amulung have waited so long for the project, “Matagal na namin hinihintay. Hindi namin makakalimutan dahil it will connect east and west. Wala na yung East kami, west kami, one Amulung na kami”, he said.
(We have waited long for this. We will never forget because it will connect the east and west. No more “we are east, we are west”, now, it’s only ‘One Amulung’)
‘One Amulung’, which holds a promise for the unity between Amulung East and West will be achieved after the construction of the bridge.
Governor Mamba, who led the ceremony once again called the attention of the two district representatives of Cagayan to step up their game.
“Adu nga tawen nga nagrigrigat tayo ta awan ti maala tayo nga proyekto dito Cagayan gapo ti aramid lidlideres tayo nga bagbagi da lang ti ammu da”, said Governor Mamba in Ilocano to the residents of Amulung.
“We suffered all those years, due to the self-centeredness of our leaders that resulted to lack of projects in Cagayan”, pertaining to the government officials he dethroned after winning the election.
