Paintings, art of prov’l gov’t employees featured in Cagayan Museum

PEÑABLANCA, Philippines- Various artworks including landscape paintings and sketches created by provincial government employees are being featured in Cagayan Museum here.

Dubbed as the “Gayam Na Nawak Anna Kolor” (Play of Light and Color): Provincial Capitol Employees Visual Arts Exhibition, the exhibit features artwork of capitol employees who earlier participated in a three-day basic art workshop.

The exhibit opened on Monday, March 26, after the capitol’s flag-raising ceremony.

Visitors and art enthusiasts can view the artworks until April.

Cagayan Museum and Historical Research Center Curator Jenifer Junio-Baquiran said the activity is part of the provincial government’s “moral recovery and spiritual formation” of employees.

“Napakahalaga na may outlet ang ating mga empleyado na kahit sobrang toxic o sobrang hirap na trabaho,” Baquiran said.

Some 29 employees from both executive and legislative offices of the capitol underwent a workshop called “Lingkod Bayani, May Talentong Natatangi” under artist Ted Baquiran.

The artists also visited Callao Caves area here to allow the employees to commune with nature, Baquiran said.

“Sabi nga nila ngayon lang ulit sila nakabalik doon sa ating Callao Cave after how many years dahil siyempre nandito nga sila sa opisina. Kailangan din kasi ng mga empleyado yan eh para mas mahusay silang makapagtrabaho kapag magkakaroon sila ng pagkakataon na para sa sarili naman nila,” Baquiran said.

Among the art techniques taught to employees were pencil sketches, cray pastels, and oil painting on canvass.

Meanwhile, the exhibit also aims to promote arts and encourage other employees to engage in arts.

The museum curator said another another round of basic workshop will “definitely” be conducted soon.

Baquiran said capitol department heads, upon seeing their co-workers’ creations, expressed interest to join he workshop.

“Gusto nating yumabong ang ating arte dito sa Cagayan, hindi lamang sa ating mga komunidad, kundi pati rito mismo sa kapitolyo,” she added.

The workshop might also be opened to children this summer, Baquiran added. Northernforum.net
