TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade said the Tuguegarao Airport will cater night flights in a matter of weeks.
In his text message to Cagayan Third District Representative Randy Ting, Tugade said the documents to make the airport “night rated” will be processed immediately.
This came as President Rodrigo Duterte’s group became the first to successfully take off at night using the newly installed airfield lighting system. The new feature of the airport was only turned hours before Duterte’s take off.
“[With the successful operation,] all documents will be processed to declare Tuguegarao airport night rated in a weeks time, way ahead of schedule,” Tugade told Ting.
This means aircrafts can already land and take off at the airport after sunset.
In a Facebook post, Tuguegarao councilor and ex-officio board member Maila Ting-Que said she and other local officials witnessed Duterte’s plane take off.
In an interview during his visit on Thursday, March 14, Tugade, who hails from Claveria, Cagayan, said Tuguegarao is one of six provincial airports the national government had been eyeing to develop.
He said the fund is already in place in place for the improvement of the new terminal building.
“May budget diyan para ma-improve ito. In fact, first phase lang ito. Aayusin pa ‘yung pangalawang terminal, ‘yung sa second floor. Magkakaroon ng ticketing at saka pre-departure area, aayusin ‘yun,” Tugade said.
“Ano ang ibig sabihin ‘nun. Committed akong magbigay ng comfort at safety dito sa Tuguegarao airport, he added.
On his visit, Tugade also inspected the ongoing rehabilitation efforts and other facilities in the airport. Northernforum.net
