TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – “Even more challenging than being a mother is being a single mother,” Mayor Bienvenido De Guzman told women of this city during the launching of the Women’s Month celebration.
“I would like to offer this significant day for all single mothers,” he added, saying “God has put them on earth for a reason.”
De Guzman said he sees single motherhood as a “supreme challenge.”
He said single mothers have “painstakingly” raise their children alone, financing all their needs and give them all the best life could offer.
“This is no joke as that is a very tough responsibility,” he said.
About 300 women from various sectors- rural improvement clubs, Catholic Women’s League and government agencies – came to attend the opening ceremonies at the St. Peter’s Cathedral Gymnasium this morning with Senator Cynthia Villar as guest.
He said the labors and sacrifices of the single mother are truly commendable and that they are in fact, unsung heroes of today.
“Part of your life’s meaning comes from discovering that reason and living it out to the best of your abilities, “the Mayor said.
The program launches a month-long celebration of women in the city characterized by various competitions among them. –Northernforum.net
