3 NPA rebels surrender in Ilocos Sur

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Three members of the communist guerrilla surrendered to military in Ilocos Sur, an Army official said on Monday, February 27.

In a statement released by the 7th Infantry Division based in Nueva Ecija, Lieutenant Colonel Eugenio Julio Osias IV of the 81st Infantry Battalion (IB) in Ilocos Sur reported that the rebels surrendered some time between January and February 24.

Osias only identified the rebels as certain ““Ka Lumen,” “Ka Ren” and “Ka Fera” for security purposes.One of them is a woman.

Osias said one of them is “regular fighter” at an NPA unit in the southern part of the province and the other one served in a medical rescue team.

The rebels were reportedly dismayed when the NPA ended their unilaterally declared ceasefire, which prompted President Rodrigo Duterte to cancel all the peace talks and declared an all-out war versus the rebels. –Northernforum.net
