Quirino fire incidents increase in 2016

CABARROGUIS, Quirino- The number of fire incidents that razed houses in this province increased to 19 cases for the period January to November 2016, or 46 percent more compared to the 13 cases for the same period last year.

In the Peace and Order Council 4th quarter meeting recently, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) reported that eight of the fire incidents were caused by electrical connection; five by lighted stick/lighter; 2- lighted cigarette butt; 2- Open flame due to torch/sulo; 1-live embers; and 1-unattended cooking stove.

Fire Officer Joefren C. Gomez said four of the incidents are still under investigation while four were found to be intentional and 12 were accidental.

Gomez said they have intensified their fire prevention campaigns during barangay assembly meeting or Ugnayan sa Barangay and school convocations to avoid fire incidents.

The Kiddie and Junior Fire Marshals, one of the advocacy programs of the BFP for elementary and secondary students respectively was also strengthened.

Fire drills in schools are also being conducted regularly to avoid casualties in case of fire.

Gomez further reported that Cabarroguis, Diffun, Maddela and Saguday had acquired new fire trucks and new fire stations were also constructed for Saguday, Maddela and Nagtipunan. The construction of Diffun Fire Station which started last November 2015 is still ongoing. PIA
