TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Provincial Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PCCDRRMC) of Cagayan passed a resolution recommending new speed rates of public utility vehicles (PUVs).
PCCDRRMC’s Resolution no. 2017-01 also requested the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board and the Land Transportation Office to implement speed rates and to educate drivers.
The council advised that the maximum allowable speed on open country roads not closely boarded with house must be at 80 kph for passenger cars and motorcycles, and 50 kph for trucks and buses.
Meanwhile, a speed limit of 40 kph is imposed on passenger cars and motorcycles, and 30 kph for trucks and buses on “through streets” or boulevards clear of traffic.
Furthermore, all PUVs must follow a 30 kph speed limit in city or municipal streets without traffic, and 20 kph in intersections, blind corners, and crowded streets including school zones.
The resolution also calls PUV operators and drivers to observe the maximum capacity of vehicles.
The council convened at the disaster risk reduction and management office in Tuguegarao City on Tuesday, October 10, a week after the deadly accident involving two passenger vans in Amulung, Cagayan. Northernforum.net
