TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Cagayan Valley Police will deploy 600 police officers throughout the region to boost security and safety during the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on Monday, May 14.
Cagayan Valley Police Director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino said the additional personnel will augment police force assigned in polling precincts in different barangays in the region.
In the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) meeting on Wednesday, May 9, Espino said police officers from the regional headquarters and police provincial offices will also be deployed in police stations regionwide.
“We will prioritize to deploy more policemen to places where there were election related incidents in the past elections,” Espino added.
Some 37 barangays in the region are placed under election watch list areas, record of the Regional Intelligence Division shows.
“Basically our police force is now ready to secure the barangay elections on Monday,” Espino said.
Meanwhile, the RJSCC which comprises the police, military, and Commission on Elections (COMELEC) said they are ready to ensure fair and secure elections on Monday.
Police Regional Office 02 led by Espino presented the security preparation for the elections while the Armed Forces of the Philippines led by 502nd Brigade Commander Brigadier General Bartolome Vicente Bacarro presented the threat situation and update on the internal security operation of the region.
COMELEC Regional Director lawyer Ederlino Tabilas talked about the disposition of ballot boxes before, during, and after the conduct of the elections.
Meanwhile, COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez said the commission with the Department of Health will set up first aid stations in some polling centers across the country.
Jimenez also encouraged voters to bring water and sunscreen during the election. Northernforum.net
