Gov’t studying Clark-Tuguegarao railway -Tugade

CAGAYAN, Philippines- Department of Transportation (DOTr) chief Arthur Tugade said the government is still studying that would connect New Clark City in Pampanga to Tuguegarao City in Cagayan Valley.

In an interview during his visit at Tuguegarao airport, Tugade said they are considering reviving the “long been planned” railway system as the government pushes to build more railways in the country.

With the construction of railway in Mindanao, Manila-Bicol, and the Manila-Clark, Tugade said he proposed for the study of a railway that would connect Northern Luzon to Metro Manila, which he said, had been a plan during the administration of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

“‘Yung tren, pinag-aaralan na ‘yun kasi alam mo, meron nang tren sa Mindanao, meron na ‘ring papuntang Bicol, meron na din sa Central Luzon, kaya nga sabi ko sa ating mga kasamahan, bakit hindi natin buhayin ‘yung tren na plano noon sa Norte,” Tugade said.

“Sirip-siripen mi dayta, ad-adalen mi nu kasanu (We are looking into it. We are studying how it can be done.),” he added.

The railway system, if built, will make Manila to Tuguegarao, via Clark, La Union, and Nueva Ecija, possible.

He said he is also open with the plan of Cagayan Economic Zone Authority’s (CEZA) administrator Raul Lambino to connect Santa Ana to Clark via railway, provided that there should be plans.

He said plans from other agencies should be reviewed to form one plan in building the proposed railway to Cagayan.

“[Kung ma-implement ‘yan, at [kung] tamang ma-implement ‘yan, then let’s do it. But let us look at the plans,” he said.

DOTr earlier said Russia expressed their willingness to help build the North Luzon Railway. Northernforum.net
