TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Cagayan Third District Representative Randolph Ting described the construction of new Tuguegarao-Solana bridge as “embodiment of new era of progress” in the province.
In a press release, Ting said he first introduced the bill seeking for the bridge’s fund to be appropriated to national budget in 2013.
In his House Bill 3497, Ting said a new bridge connecting 3rd District of Cagayan to 2nd District and neighboring provinces should be constructed as the Buntun Bridge in Tuguegarao is reaching its maximum usage.
He added that the proposed bridge will loosen heavy traffic in Buntun Highway as motorists do not have alternate routes to towns of Western Isabela, Western Cagayan, and Cordillera provinces.
“When finished, this will make the life of motorists and commuters more comfortable,” Rep. Ting said in his press release.
The bill was refiled in 2016 through House Bill 1986.
In earlier interviews, Ting said an initial P200 million was alloted for the road right of way acquisition and other pre-constructions.
On October 11, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar led the groundbreaking of the P5.5-billion project.
The Tuguegarao By-Pass Road will cost P2.9 billion while the bridge will be alloted P2.6 billion, data from DPWH showed.
Villar, in a Facebook post, said the project will cut time of motorists travelling Carig to Solana proper by 30 monutes. Northernforum.net
