More than 3000 students from Allacapan, Cagayan received books as an early Christmas gift from “Project Akyat Aklatan”, a project of Kabalikat Civicom’s 729 Team Matikas supported by Sierra Falcones on December 2, 2019.
The town of Allacapan is the third one to be reached by the project following, Zinundungan Valley in Rizal and Sicalao, Lassam where a total of 10,000 books were given. This time, three schools from Allacapan received 5,000 books.
“Project Akyat Aklatan” is a book giving activity designed to reach out to rural areas and supply books and learning materials for students and teachers to use.
TJ Ponce, Sangguniang Bayan Secretary said that this activity is a great help for the town which just recently suffered from the widespread flooding in Northern Cagayan.
“Few weeks ago, the town of Allacapan was submerged underwater brought by typhoon Ramon and thankfully, we are now getting back on track”, said Ponce.
These books will help not only the learners to start over but it will boost their morale to study harder”, he added.
Christian Paul Lopez, KB 729 President said that this act will never stop as long as they can help those who are in need, “When we started this project, we saw that this will continue because children from sitios’ need this kind sense of belonginess”.
Meanwhile, Kahulugan told the children that the objective of the organization is to keep helping the learners specifically those who are living in the remotest areas.
“I joined the organization because it is my social responsibility. I’m doing this because I can and I will not stop whatever the cause”, he added.
Lastly, the joint organization said that they will continue to advocate reading materials for the learners of their area of responsibility.
