Crewman in Batanes boat mishap still missing

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A 34-year old cargo ship crewman remains missing after their small boat capsized along Chanarian village coast in Basco, Batanes on December 26.

In a Bombo Radyo report, Batanes police said search continues for Jun Roldan, crew member of cargo ship MV Everwin 1.

Batanes Police Office’s Police Senior Inspector Edison Lagua said Roldan and four others went to buy supplies in the market after their ship docked from Currimao, Ilocos Norte. Earlier reports also state their vessel was waiting for another ship to unload its cargo.

Despite being instructed to return at 4 PM, the five the five returned in the evening with a fishing boat which capsized “less than a kilometer from the port due to strong waves,” reports said.

Roldan’s four companions were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard later that night.

Further, Lagua told Bombo that the boat only had a capacity of two people.

Meanwhile, Roldan’s sister Susie Roldan Pangan continues to plea and post photos of Jun on Facebook, calling for anyone who may have seen his brother.

Roldan’s relatives from Aklan province are reportedly in Batanes to get his things. Northernforum.net
