TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Department of Health (DOH) in Cagayan Valley region has reported an increase of firecracker-related injuries from its earlier report on January 1.
From December 21 to January 5, injuries caused by firecrackers have risen to 71, much higher than the 20 cases reported on January 1, a DOH official said.
The reported number is still lower than the 86 reported cases last year. The monitoring ends every January 6.
Isabela topped the list of having the most number of reported cases with a total of 31 injuries. Of the number, 10 was from Santiago, four from the city of Ilagan, four from Cauayan City and 13 cases from the other towns.
Cagayan province, meanwhile, tallied 25 cases, 14 of which was reported from Tuguegarao City.
Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino have 11 and four cases, respectively, while Batanes has achieved zero casualty.
Records showed most injuries were caused by Kuwitis, 19; luces, 12; piccolo, 9; and pla-pla, 6. Luces, Piccolo and pla-pla are considered illegal firecrackers.
DOH said most victims have obtained injuries on their hands and eyes. Northernforum.net
