BALLESTEROS, Cagayan—The Bureau of Jail and Penology – Ballesteros District has made 17 graduates of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) from Alternative Learning System program of the Department of Education (DepEd).
Jail Warden JSI Mark Anthony Saquing of BDJ told the Northern Forum in an interview that the 3rd batch of graduates inside his Jail was one of the best achievements he had done. “The graduates said they want to continue their schooling to gain more learnings so I supported them,” he added.
With this kind of activities Saquing emphasized, “PDL are more encouraged to have second chance to become new persons. We just want to help them because they also have reasons and emotions for what and who they are”, he added.
Meanwhile, Saquing confirmed that 1 supposedly graduate of ALS was not able to join this year because of name problem. However, DepEd said that the PDL will be graduating next year without taking ALS again.
