TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Philippine National Police Cagayan Valley regional unit said they recorded a decrease in number of cops involved on human rights violations.
In a press statement, PNP-Cagayan Valley human rights officer Police Chief Inspector Aileen Urani said only 4 police officer have been charged so far this year.
Urani said the number is far from last year’s, which posted 13 violators.
All of them were assigned in Nueva Vizcaya province, Urani said.
The said police were charged with violence against women and their children, torture, physical injury and grave threat.
Urani added that the regional police unit have been conducting training and seminars on human rights among its officers.
The PNP have been facing issues on human rights violations under the Duterte administration due to increased killings of drug suspects.
As of December 12, more than 2,000 drug suspects have been killed in legitimate police operations, according to a report by Rappler.
Around 3,800 have killed in vigilante-style or unexplained killings (including deaths under investigation).
