Tuguegarao City – The Department of Public Works and Highways Regional Office 02 has intensified efforts in fighting the spread of COVID-19 by putting up decontamination tents and disinfecting gantry type facilities all over the region.
These stations were placed at identified strategic locations within the jurisdiction of the Regional and District engineering offices. In her report to Secretary Mark A. Villar, DPWH Region 2 OIC-Regional Director Loreta M. Malaluan cited that the office has installed 38 sanitation facilities all over Cagayan Valley.
22 of which are the gantry type disinfecting stations that were put up in critical places like COVID-19 IATF checkpoints, Highway junctions, regional and provincial boundaries. Frontline employees from the maintenance wearing complete protective suits handles the spraying of low-concentration chlorine-and-water mixtures in the location. “A Gantry-type station is an innovative way of decontaminating vehicles without hampering traffic while maintaining social distancing.” Malaluan said.
The activity was initiated by DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar who instructed Regional and District Engineering Offices to intensify actions that would assist in battling the COVID-19 pandemic at the same time ensuring safety at all highway systems in the region. DPWH-2 also put up 16 decontamination tents in the regional office and its 11 district engineering offices, these are installed at the compound’s point of entry to ensure the safety of its personnel as well the public that it serves.
While the office continues to operate on skeletal workforce, strict implementation of sanitizing protocol will be observed. Every person will have to follow health and safety procedure upon entering office grounds undergoing disinfection at the decontamination tent. “These measures are our own way of contributing efforts in the fight against this pandemic that continuously pose a threat to our nation. Rest assured, that we will continue to put up more stations in the coming days.” Malaluan stated.
