TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- After shooting his girlfriend’s brother and a woman, a 38-year old police officer was killed by responding police in Dupax Del Sur, Nueva Vizcaya on Monday afternoon, December 11.
The suspect, believed to be drunk during the incident, was identified as Police Officer 02 Gerwin Goze. He was assigned in the town’s police station.
Police identified the other victims as Joseph Agravante, 29, from Barangay Balzain, the said town, and Edeliza May Manuel, 29, who later died in the hospital.
In their investigation, Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Police (NVPPO) said Goze was looking for his girlfriend in her father’s house. When he was unable to find his girlfriend, he began shooting inside the house, killing Joseph and seriously injuring Edeliza.
Responding police led by Police Chief Inspector Rovelita Aglipay tried to persuade Goze to lay down his M16 armalite and pistol, and surrender peacefully. Instead, Goze continued to fire, prompting police to shoot his leg to immobilize him.
Despite being hit, Goze continued shooting at the responding officers, leaving them to fire back at the suspect, resulting to his death.
Police Regional Office 02 Public Information Officer Superintendent Chevalier Iringan told Forum that NVPPO is set to conduct further investigation. Northernforum.net
