TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A man was shot and killed in Baranagy Annafunan East, Tuguegarao City late Wednesday afternoon, October 18.
Police identified the victim as Antonio Lingan Malenab, a former municipal engineer of Solana, Cagayan.
Tuguegarao police said the victim was driving along Bagay-Annafunan road when he was pursued by two unidentified men wearing helmets, and were riding in a black and white motorcycle.
As the victim’s vehicle stopped near the intersection in Annafunan, the suspects got off their motorcycle and fired Malenab several times to ensure the kill.
The suspects immediately fled the area and exited through Bagay Road, witnesses said.
Scene of the Crime Operation and police recovered 12 pieces of fired cartridge of caliber 45, 11 pieces of fired cartridge from caliber 30, five fired bullets, and two metal fragments.
Malenab sustained 17 gunshot wounds mostly in his chest, police said.
Later that night, police held a case conference and have begun eliminating possible motives of the crime. Malenab was a private contract engineer.
Police intensified checkpoints and chokepoints in the city following the incident.
Tuguegarao City police reminded the public to call the police immediately in incidents.
Police said this will allow them to quickly initiate intensified checkpoints and make a perimeter to possibly contain riding-in-tandem suspects. Quick response teams will also be able to respond quickly to victims.
They said it will help them a lot when the community will report such cases as soon as possible for them to conduct response operations.
They are also proposing a memorandum of agreement with business owners to require CCTVs in their establishments. Police said this will help them in solving cases, and in ensuring safety and security.
