TUGUEGARAO CITY, PHILIPPINES- The ambushed barangay captain in this city was a drug suspect, police said.
Superintendent Edward Guzman, city police chief, said Linao West captain Gerry Quilang had surrendered at the height of Oplan Tokhang of the Philippine National Police.
Quilang is considered a high-value for his alleged involvement in the drug trade as a government official.
Earlier on Thursday, May 25, Quilang was ambushed by still unknown assailants along Diversion Road in this city. He survived the gunshots and is now being treated at a private hospital.
Aside from being a drug suspect, Guzman said the captain was also once caught shoplifting at a local department store in the city.
He said the incident was filed at the Don Domingo police outpost last year.
