TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Thousands of people attended a pro-federalism seminar in Tuguegarao City as the country celebrates Bonifacio Day on Thursday, November 30.
A source from the Tuguegarao city government said the number of people was estimated to be more than 2,500.
Earlier advisories said a pro-revolutionary government (RevGov) rally will happen at the same venue, simultaneous with the different pro-RevGov demonstrations around the country.
But Mayor Jefferson Soriano clarified that the seminar was solely organized by his local political party in support to the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte.
The event was titled, “Tapang at Malasakit pasa sa Mabilis na Pagbabago.”
“This is our support for fast reform. This is our support to the programs of the present administration,” Soriano said in an interview with reporters.
Soriano said his group had partnered with the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) to “discuss the salient points” of federalism to people of Tuguegarao.
He said the seminar is only the first in series of seminars.
“Because we think this is good for us, then we bring it directly to the people…so that when the right time will come, they will have an informed decision (on federalism),” Soriano added.
The mayor also expressed his support to the revolutionary government under the Duterte administration “for as long as the institutions of democracy are there for the check and balance.”
Meanwhile, members of the Hukbong Federal Movement of the Philippines- Cagayan Valley chapter held a caravan in Camalaniugan town to express their support to the revolutionary government. Northernforum.net
