TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Commission on Population (PopCom) Region 02 has intensified their campaign on modern family planning methods.
This after the Food and Drugs Administration released Resolution no. 2017-302, dated on November 10, stating that all 51 contraceptives up for re-certification are non abortifacient or do not induce abortion.
This effectively lifted the 29-month old Supreme Court temporary restraining order since June 2015.
PopCom Assistant Regional Director-Designate Herita Ondasan Macarubbo said among those cleared include progestin subdermal implants Implanon and Implanon NXT.
The said implants can be injected to women to prevent impregnation for three years, Macarubbo said in Philippine Information Agency Region 02’s Tipon-Tipan on Friday, November 24.
The incoming regional director said women will experience amenorrhea effect or the absence of menstruation. Macarubbo, however, said this “safe,” saying, “hindi naman nakakasama sa kanyang katawan yan.”
Furthermore, the implant which will be injected in women’s arms will not affect mobility and that women can still do normal activities.
The health department is currently promoting 3-5 years birth spacing of families. PopCom is also celebrating Population and Development Week from November 23 to 29.
Macarubbo noted that only trained doctors can do the insertion of the two implants. “Hindi basta-basta po na siya ay midwife, nurse, doctor; there’s a special training for that,” she said.
Women can avail the two implants in private clinics in Tuguegarao, and in municipal health offices of Penablanca and Baggao.
However, Macarubbo said the two contraceptive implants, like any other medicine or drug, may cause side effects to women. Yet, she reiterated the safety of the implants and assured that the benefits outweigh the side effects. Northernforum.net
