Tuguegarao City declared under State of Calamity

Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Local Government of Tuguegarao has declared the key city under a ‘State of Calamity’ on Friday, Nov 4, following the adverse effects of flooding from tropical storm Paeng last week.

Majority of the city’s Barangays have been drenched in volume flood water last week similar to the situation back in 2020 when typhoon Ulysses wreaked havoc from record high rains.

Around 40 Barangays have been hard-hit with floods and accumulated rainwater affecting close to 36,000 locals or close to 11,000 families.

Mayor Maila Ting-Que told reporters that the declaration will help speed up the processes to bring more aid to affected residents of the city.

The recommendation of the adjustment came from the Mayor during the height of the flooding, and was later affirmed by the City Council via Resolution No.552-09-2022.

The said resolution also seeks to provide more assistance to local farmers and welfare for affected families.

Due to the crisis, the declaration has also included a price freeze for basic commodities.

Local authorities are still assessing the damages to infrastructure and agriculture as low-lying areas of the premiere city are still under recovery while some roads are still unpassable due to mud from flooding.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of Cagayan has disclosed that the current worth of damages to infrastructure in the entire province amounts to P39,247,128, while P38,984,008 for agriculture. TNF
