TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Vice Mayor Bienvenido De Guzman II thanked supporters as he turned over duties as mayor to reinstated lawyer Jefferson Soriano on Wednesday, September 6.
In a Facebook post, De Guzman said, “I deeply appreciate all the people who believed in me and never gave up on me. My sincerest gratitude to all those who supported me. Thank you so much. Mabbalo.”
He said that the last seven months was a major turnaround for him because he became city mayor unexpectedly.
“Not being ready is not an excuse as I have to continue to work for the well-being of my constituents. Those seven months are no joke. Great responsibility and tasks fell upon me,” he said.
De Guzman took over as mayor on February 10 after Soriano was ordered dismissed by the Ombudsman in January for “grave misconduct and abuse of authority” over a parking terminal he allegedly allowed to operate without prior approval of the city council.
On August 30, the Court of Appeals reversed the decision and ordered the “immediate reinstatement” of Soriano as mayor. He resumed office on Wednesday. Northernforum.net
