TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Department of Agriculture Region 02 (DA RO2) reiterated that they are still implementing intensified preventive measures against the entry of poultry products affected with avian flu virus.

DA RO2 Integrated Laboratory Division Chief Doctor Roberto Busania said that those delivering poultry products must present required documents such as shipping permits and veterinary health certificate from the government.
Busania also said that dressing plants must also have an accreditation from the National Meat Inspection Service to ensure that the products were processed and slaughtered well.
DA maintained that the region is still bird flu free, adding that they they have intensified surveillance in quarantine checkpoints located in Santa Fe, Nueva Vizcaya; Santa Praxedes, Cagayan; and Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya; and Nagtipunan, Quirino.

Aside from these measures, provincial governments in Cagayan Valley such as Isabela and Cagayan are also conducting blood testing on birds and other fowls. So far, all 930 blood samples of chicken and fowls have tested negative of the H5N6 virus.
Lakes in the region are also being monitored as these are visited by migratory birds from China, Russia, and Korea, Busania said.
