Tuguegarao City, Cagayan -This morning, December 28, DOST PAGASA’s Cagayan River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (CRBFFWC) latest flood advisory confirms a recession in the upper and middle Cagayan river basin and its tributaries leaving only the lower areas above alert level with still a ‘slow rise’ in the size of the river. Together with the flood advisory, is the weather update that confirms light to at times heavy rains expected in the basin area within the next 24 hours.

PAGASA also added that the Low Pressure Area or LPA together with the North East Monsoon has brought yet another set of high volume rains that have lasted for three days now since it started on Christmas day, Friday, December 25. With the remaining weather systems above the region, the lower Cagayan river basin is still threatening nearby areas for flooding as a ‘slow rise’ is still underway. However, should the rains stop there is a chance for the lower Cagayan river basin to decrease its size.

Towns such as Peñablanca, Enrile, Solana, Baggao, Iguig, Enrile, Amulung, Alcala, Lasam, Camalaniugan, Aparri, Tuao, Piat, Sto. Niño and Gattaran are part of the Lower Cagayan River Basin and its tributaries. Also belonging to this part of the Cagayan river is the Buntun bridge station where the levels have now reached 7.77 meters as of 2:30pm. The persistent rain has yet again affected riverside areas and low-lying communities that deal with accumulated rain water such as Linao East and Annafunan East in Tuguegarao City.
