TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A family has to cross a swollen river in Baggao town in Cagayan province to bury their dead.
In a photo uploaded in his Facebook on Thursday, December 29, Ervin Cabading said he saw some men carrying the casket in a rubber boat across the river in Baggao.
“May patay na nakakabaong po na itinawid…kelangan po ilibing ngayon,” Cabading said.
(A corpse in casket was taken across the river. They need to inter him today.)
Cabading said the river overflowed due to consistent rains for the past day, leaving the Abusag bridge impassable to all types of vehicle.
But government agencies also recorded impassable bridges in different parts of the province.
The Pinacanauan overflow bridge in this city is now impassable to both light and heavy vehicles.
Mayor Jefferson Soriano advised motorists to take precautionary measures and find alternate routes.
The Tawi bridge in Callao village in Penablanca town is also impassable, isolating some of the villages in town since the alternative bridge was also destroyed by super typhoon Lawin last October.
Meanwhile, the Bagunot bridge, also in Baggao town, are also now impassable, according to the Cagayan public information office.
In its latest advisory 9 noon on Thursday, the Magat Dam administration said the water level of the Magat is at 193.31m and the inflow is 1,235 m³/sec.
It also said it has opened one gate since 9 am.
State weather bureau PAGASA said the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan is affecting parts of Northern Luzon, including Cagayan. –Northernforum.net
