1 dead, 1 hurt in collapsed 12-feet trench in Tuguegarao

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A worker was dead and a foreman was injured when a 12-feet high trench of a construction in this city collapsed Thursday afternoon, March 8.

In a report, the Cagayan police said Mario Javier, a resident of Gattaran, Cagayan, was proclaimed dead on arrival at a local hospital in Tuguegarao moments after being rescued at a collapsed trench in Barangay Caggay.

Von Ryan Coles, also from Gattaran town, was hurt in the accident, police said.

The workers were reportedly constructing a building to house the NETS Electrical Services owned by certain Nixon Suguitan.

Initial investigations showed that the victims were installing the frame works at the excavated land when a huge portion of land suddenly collapsed, burying them alive.

Police said Coles was immediately rescued by his co-workers, while Javier was later rescued with the help of rescue teams of the city government.

Coles was brought to Cagayan Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Police are now investigating the cause of collapse. Northernforum.net
