TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A worker was dead and a foreman was injured when a 12-feet high trench of a construction in this city collapsed Thursday afternoon, March 8.
In a report, the Cagayan police said Mario Javier, a resident of Gattaran, Cagayan, was proclaimed dead on arrival at a local hospital in Tuguegarao moments after being rescued at a collapsed trench in Barangay Caggay.
Von Ryan Coles, also from Gattaran town, was hurt in the accident, police said.
The workers were reportedly constructing a building to house the NETS Electrical Services owned by certain Nixon Suguitan.
Initial investigations showed that the victims were installing the frame works at the excavated land when a huge portion of land suddenly collapsed, burying them alive.
Police said Coles was immediately rescued by his co-workers, while Javier was later rescued with the help of rescue teams of the city government.
Coles was brought to Cagayan Valley Medical Center for treatment.
