TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A 16-year old student from Olongapo City, Zambales drowned in Disvayangan Beach, Mahatao, Batanes on Monday afternoon, June 11.
In a report sent to Forum, police identified the victim as Luis Estamo.
Police said the victims were having a picnic at said beach when they went for swimming at the “Tumaruk” area despite “strong waves” at around 2:30 PM.
Investigation shows that the victims were pulled by the strong current after a big wave smashed on them.
His father, preacher Douglas Estamo, 51, and brother Robin Estamo, were rescued by Mahatao response teams.
After lengthy search, Luis’ body was fount by fisherman Mark Abella at around 4:08 PM. Luis was rushed to Batanes General Hospital but he was declared dead on arrival.
Doctor Michelle Carias said Estamo died of cardio-pulmonary arrest secondary to drowning.
Police have reminded the public to observe safety precautions when going to the beach to prevent “unfortunate events” from happening in supposedly joyful vacations. Northernforum.net
