TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- A 41-year old construction worker was gunned down along Barangay Maddarulug in Solana, Cagayan on Friday night, September 1.
Police said Conrado Gagarin Soriano Jr of Barangay Sampaguita, Solana was riding on his black motorcycle and was passing in front of the Franciscan Apostolic Sisters’ Convent when unidentified gunmen shot him several times.
Soriano reportedly sustained eight gunshot wounds.
Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered 11 empty shells of M16 armalite rifle. Police also recovered a cal .45 pistol inside Soriano’s bag.
Police Senior Inspector Renz Marion Baloran told The Northern Forum in a phone interview that Soriano was arrested in March this year in a checkpoint for allegedly possessing illegal firearms but he managed to post bail.
Relatives of Soriano are calling for justice over his death.
Brother vs brother
The following night in the same town, September 2, a jeepney driver was hurt after being shot by his brother in Barangay Natappian West in Solana, Cagayan on Saturday night, September 2.
Police said that the victim, Cristopher Bangayan Zalun, 37, was in his home at around 10 pm when his brother and the suspect, Kevin Zalun, 38, challenged him to a fist fight.
After the two traded punches, Kevin reportedly drew an improvised handgun. He then shot Cristopher, hitting him on his buttocks. The suspect then quickly ran off the scene. The victim was rushed to Saint Paul Hospital in Tuguegarao City and still recovering.
Police Senior Inspector Baloran said that most of the cases in their area involved drunk individuals.
Baloran warned the public to lessen or be responsible in their liquor intake to avoid such incidences.
Baloran added that the police are conducting follow-up investigations on both cases. He also assured the public’s safety as the local police have heightened its security measures and checkpoint areas. Northernforum.net
