With the theme “Mary, Model of Moral Ascendancy and Spiritual Leadership,” the Marian Voyage of Peace and Love is one of the five major events of the Aggao nac Cagayan.
Cagayan Capitol Chief of Staff Lawyer Charo Mamba-Villaflor said the devotion to the Virgin Mary is part of Cagayan’s culture and faith tourism.
“It is also a big part of faith tourism in our province because Cagayan is the faith tourism center of the region. Even the Department of Tourism is considering the province as a cluster with the presence of Our Lady of Piat,” Villaflor said.
Villaflor said the images, as well as the events for Aggao, were distributed to all because Governor Manuel Mamba wanted to spread the activities for the annual celebration to all towns especially the northern areas. This is in line with this year’s theme of “Cagayan Looking Northward,” Villaflor said.
“The 19 Marian images will be coming to hopefully bless our province so that we may be all the more motivated to pursue the direction that the governor has set for the provincial government,” the lawyer added.
On Wednesday, June 27, liturgical activities such as youth vigils will be held while the images are enthroned in their respective host LGUs.
All the images will then converge at Saint Peter and Paul Metropolitan Cathedral here in this city on Thursday, June 28. The images are expected to arrive between 10 AM to 12 NN at the cathedral patio.
Mass will be held at 4 PM followed by a grand procession around this city at 6 PM. A youth vigil overnight will follow starting 9 PM.
On Friday, June 29, the actual Aggao nac Cagayan, another mass will be celebrated at the cathedral at 6:30 AM.
The images will then depart from the cathedral to Basilica Minore of Piat at 7:30 AM.
Another mass will be offered at Piat at 9:30 AM, followed by the veneration of devotees to all images at the basilica grounds.
At 11:30 AM, all images are expected to return to their respective home churches.
The voyage is also organized by the Cagayan North Convention and Visitors Bureau.
The provincial government and the Archdiocese of Tuguegarao is expecting a large crowd during the event.
The Provincial Disaster and Climate Change Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) has formed incident management teams at the northern and southern fronts of the province to control, secure, and protect all Cagayanos and other pilgrims. | Gerard Josef Tumaliuan Lucena/Northernforum.net
