Gutoc: Economic policy before political structuring

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan—Senatorial Candidate, Otso Diretso’s Samira Gutoc on March 15, 2019 stated on an exclusive interview with The Northern Forum, “Economic policy muna bago political structuring”.

In an interview, Gutoc emphasized that rather than going big with Federalism-political structuring, the government should focus on strictly implementing Economic policies.

“Federalism, kasi syempre malalayo tayo sa Tuguegarao, we want na mas malapit nga ang gobyerno. Right ang issue is tumaas ang inflation rate, tumaas ang pamilihin at gasolina at of course Economic Policy first before Political Structuring”, she emphasized.

Moreover, she also explained that Federalism could get people closer to the government but there are other ways to do this than jumping to a major change.

She added, “Para sakin, economic policy one by one muna. Wag masyadong mabigat na Federalism agad.”

Meanwhile, Gutoc was asked if she supports the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) which made former Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) to Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Conflict in Mindanao is one of the country’s biggest issues that dates back decades, tracing its roots to disputes over land and religion.

The Moros, faced with land grabbing of their ancestral lands, have been fighting for what their say is rightfully theirs.  Rebel groups such as the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) turned to violence and demanded for a separate state.

Past administrations tried to attain peace in the south through negotiations, but none have succeeded. The Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) is the latest of the government’s efforts to quell the conflict in Mindanao.

Gutoc then said that her main advocacy is for “PEACE”. northernforum.net
