TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – Almost 14,000 Listed Establishments (LE) were created in Isabela Province, making it the number one in the region for having the most number of establishments.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) R02 commended Isabela for ranking first in the region and 20th in the Philippines during the dissemination forum on 2018 Census of the Philippine Business and Industry Phase 1 on July 31, 2019.
With a total of 13,685 Listed Establishments (LE), Isabela Province outnumbered Cagayan with 9,839 LE who ranked 27th nationwide, Nueva Vizcaya with 5,169 LE and 45th in the country, Quirino with 1,739 LE and 67th in the ranking, and Batanes Province who has only 319 LE and ranked last nationwide.
As of 2018, the census of PSA R02 recorded a total of 30,751 LE in the whole Cagayan Valley, securing only the 13th place on the overall ranking.
Nenita Rebarter, PSA Chief Statistical Specialist clarified that their census for Small Medium and Medium-Sized Enterprises used the criteria of employment size, not the asset size since it offers more accuracy than the other.
Rebarter said that there were 15,235 updated enterprises, those who have been listed since the last census, 15,516 newly established enterprises and 13,869 who were either nowhere to be found anymore, or declared out of operation.
Out of the 30, 751 LE, only 35 were recorded as Large enterprise, 51 Medium enterprises, 2,118 Small enterprises and 28,547 were considered as Micro enterprises.
An establishment will be considered as micro level if it has 1-9 employees, small if it has 10-99 employees, medium if it has 100-199 employees and large if it has 200 or more employees.
18 out of the 21 industry sections were only considered by the PSA as the scope and coverage during their census, and has logged Wholesale and Retail Trade section as the highest in the whole region with 15,435 establishments currently in operation.
Furthermore, Manufacturing section came in second with 4,861, Accommodation and Food Services Activities section with 4,168 as third, Other Service Activities section with 1,551 as fourth and Financial and Insurance Activities section with 1,305 as fifth.
In a speech given by National Economic and Development Authority Region 2 Assistant Regional Director Engr. Ferdinand Tumaliuan, he suggested to the other Government agencies to use the census to impose policies and create projects for the betterment of the economic status of the region.
