PTFoms conducts Press Freedom Caravan in Tuguegarao

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan- Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoms) conducted a Press Freedom Caravan in Tuguegarao City.

On Wednesday, May 22 PTFoms under the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) is going around the Philippines through PCOO multi-sectoral Roadshow. “This program ensures extensive reach for PCOO-FOI, education and communications campaign aimed at informing and engaging the public on the initiatives and achievements of the Duterte Administration”, a PCOO official said.

The roadshow focused on journalists’ common issues. PTFoms Executive Director, Undersecretary Jose Joel Sy M. Egco said that the Duterte administration recognizes media workers vital role for sustained developmental communications towards continued economic development and social progress.

According to Egco, this program (PTFoms) is the first in Asia, possibly in the world with the mandate to protect the life liberty and security of media workers.

Types of Risk

Meanwhile, Egco also discussed the types of risk being a media worker. 1. Duty-as media has high risk performing the job and/or duty 2. Advocacy-advocating for something that some people don’t want could be risky for journalists. 3. Crusade-Some journalists cross over from being a journalist to becoming a politician which makes them expose as being a target.

MOU for FOI in CSU Campus

Also during the Caravan, a ceremonial signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the implementation of the FOI Program in State Schools, Universities and Colleges was held between PCOO-FOI and Cagayan State University (CSU). The signing was led by Asec. Kristian R. Ablan and CSU President Dr. Urdujah A. Tejada, CESO III.

How was the PTFoms constructed? The task force was created under Administrative Order 01 when PRRD signed it on October 11, 2016. The multi-sectoral forum was attended by different National Government Agencies (NGA), Non-governmental Organization (NGO) and local media practitioners. Why journalists being killed? Three major contributors. Dirty politica, corruptions and crime, vulnerability of media. https://northernforum.net
