TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan- Around 60 Chinese tourists arrived in Cagayan as Lal-lo Airport received its first flight from Macau on Friday, March 23.
Royal Air, a 100-seater, 4-engine aircraft, landed in the airport around 4:15 pm on Friday. It is carrying its company’s executives, who also joined the blessing of the aircraft.
Airport officials said the plane had to first land in Tuguegarao City Airport before land in Lal-lo Airport as the later has yet to acquire its International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)-defined code.
Contrary to earlier reports, Engr. Rommel Santiago, the airport manager, said the Royal Air flight that landed on Friday was a chartered flight, and not a commercial flight.
The number of passengers, however, could be referred to as commercial flight.
A source privy to the tour said the tourists are divided into groups, each has own itineraries in going around tourist attractions in Cagayan province.
‘More to be done’
Tourist passengers took about two hours to be cleared by the airport management to proceed. The procedures include registering and clearance at the Bureau of Immigration and later, the clearance at the Bureau of Customs.
As machine X-rays have yet to be placed for scanning of bags and cargos, officials have to search the tourists’ belongings manually.
Santiago admitted the airport has yet to meet its full upgrade.
“Well, sa terminal building natin, madami pang kailangang i-upgrade, gaya ng mga X-ray machines na kailangan ng security at ng Customs. Nakita nyo naman mga upuan kulang pa, mga monitors, at saka iba pang equipment,” Santiago said.
He, however, said the upgrades are also budgeted and is set to be implemented on the second quarter of 2018.
The Lal-lo Airport was a joint venture of CEZA and a private consortium. It was started in 2009 and tested by the CAAP in 2013. Northernforum.net
