Albayalde orders Tuguegarao police: ‘serve the city well’

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde told police officers here to wholeheartedly serve the people as a way to reciprocate the city’s support for the police.

“Serve this city well. Suklian naman natin ng magandang pagseserbisyo ang tulong na ibinigay ng Tuguegarao City,” Albayalde said in his speech during the inauguration of this city’s new police station on Friday, June 1.

Albayalde said the new buildings of the PNP helps them in achieving their goal of having “highly-capable and credible police service.”

The chief PNP also told police officers to take good care of the new station as if this was their own homes.

“Wag sana nating gawing parang bahay lang natin na tulug-tulugan lang natin [itong police station]. Let us maintain its cleanliness and its presentability para ang mga tao ay ma-enganyo na magcomplain o humingi ng tulong,” he added.

Tuguegarao City’s new police station is a standard city-type police building worth P14,166,216.68. Construction started on March 10, 2016.

With an area of 1,500 square meters, the new station is the largest in the region thus far, an information officer of the police claimed.

Albayalde exclaimed how “lucky” chiefs of police are today because of their better buildings and facilities.

“When we were young, kung kami ay chief of police noon, nasa ilalim lang kami ng mangga. Dun lang kami kung saan-saan. Bibigyan ka ng munisipyo ng isang opisina, andun ka lang, parang kasing amoy ng CR,” Albayalde shared.

Albayalde thanked the city government for their support in the completion of the city’s new police station.

“So much is required of us, so much is expected of us and yet nakikita naman po natin na kung minsan lalo na kung hindi natin kapartido yung mayor sa isang municipality or isang city parang tayo’y namamalimos,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Jefferson Soriano also thanked the PNP and the then-6th City Council for approving the donation of the lot to the police.

Soriano, who was then Police Deputy Director General for Administration, PNP already allocated 10 million in 2008 for our police station.

“The problem then, I was explaining to everybody, wala pong lupa and yun po ang requirement ng DL natin up to now ang share ng local government is yung lupa. So that when we made it in 2013, that was one of my first official action. Go to the sanggunian and request for a part of our lot here allotted to the city government for our police station,” Soriano said.

The former police general said it is the obligation of the local chief executive, especially him who “came from the service” to support the police.

“This is a dream come true for a policeman coming from a place na wala pong police station. I commend Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Warren Gaspar Tolito [and] Chief of Police Superintendent George Cabralda for coming up with this project. This is your legacy,” Soriano said.

Further, Soriano told this city’s police to love their workplace.

“One of the ways to love your service is to love the place where you stay. Respect the place where you stay and the place will also reciprocate your love to it. It will also love you,” Soriano said. Northernforum.net
