
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – A town councilor of Allacapan, Cagayan was shot dead by unknown assailants Thursday, May 24.
Reports reaching Senior Superintendent Warren Tolito, the provincial police chief, identifies the victim as Councilor Zaldy Mallari.
Mallari died of several gunshot wounds. He was 58.
Initial investigation showed Mallari just arrived from buying spare vehicle parts in Aparri when two unidentified gunmen shot him.
The suspects, according to police, fled towards western part of Aparri.
Police are still investigating the slay to identify the suspects and the motive.
During the election period in 2016, Mallari already survived an attempt to end his life.
Meanwhile, ex-officio Board Member Maila Ting-Que, president of the Philippine Councilor’s League (PCL) – Cagayan Chapter, condemned the killing of Mallari.
Ting-Que urged authorities to investigate and solve the crime to give justice to the victim.
