TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Region 02 here also condemned the killing of Fr. Mark Anthony Ventura who was killed after celebrating mass at Barangay Pena Weste, Gattaran Cagayan on Sunday, April 29.
In a press release to Forum, CHR Regional Director lawyer Jimmy Baliga said they condemn “unequivocally and in strongest terms” the recent “barbaric and alarming” murder of Ventura.
“This outrageous and heinous act committed against this young, outspoken, and fearless priest begs for no less than the ultimate justice to be meted out to the assailants and perpetrators,” CHR said.
“It is so sad that in this peaceful times, even the life of a servant of God, whose only mission is dedicated to spreading God’s word of mercy, love, forgiveness, and charity, was snuffed out so violently,” the commission added.
“For this reason, we urge, as in the other cases of senseless killings, the Philippine National Police Regional Office 02 (PRO2) to place at their disposal the needed resources to solve this crime and put behind bars the perpetrators and those who dare carry out such dastardly and meaningless act at the soonest possible time,” CHR said.
Meanwhile, PRO2 Regional Director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino has already formed a task force and ordered a manhunt search against the suspects. Northernforum.net
