8 ‘illegal miners’ arrested in Isabela

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Eight miners in Cordon, Isabela, were arrested in an operation on Monday, April 9, after they failed to show police the permits to conduct mining activities.

Arrested were Fidel Pagala, 41, Ricky Dela Cruz, 42, Valiant Viernes, 44, Octavio Agramos, 51, Mario Dinamling, 52,  and Gerald Dug-a, 57, – all residents of Anonang, Cordon, Isabela.

Police also nabbed Jonathan Tobias, 29, of Caquilingan, Cordon, and Rudy Agustin, 45, of Cabulay, Santiago City.

In a report, Cordon Police through Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) San Isidro, Isabela arrested the suspects while processing, gathering, and crushing collected ores to a ball mill at Barangay Anonang, Cordon town.

Police said the suspects violated of Republic Act 7076 or the People’s Small Scale Mining Act of 1991 and Section 55 of Republic Act 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 which prohibits persons to engage in the processing of minerals without securing a minerals processing permit from the environment secretary.

Meanwhile, Cagayan Valley Police Director Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino commended the operating team on their successful operation. Northernforum.net
