GSP Cagayan reaps most number of chief scout medalists nationwide

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- With 63 awardees, Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP) Cagayan Council has the most number of Chief Girl Scout Medal awardees in the entire Philippines.

GSP Cagayan Council President Blessida Diwa told the media in Philippine Information Agency’s Tipin-Tipan on Monday, January 29, that the recipients were awarded in the Philippine International Convention Center in October 2017.

“We’re very happy na itong ating senior girl scouts ang focus nila is challenge to the environment and community development. Ito ang pinakabuong project ng ating chief girl scout medalist on the environment,” Diwa said.

The Chief Girl Scout Medal is also given to scouts who have executed successful livelihood programs and environment beautification in their community.

The winning troops were encouraged to undertake projects and are being monitored by GSP Cagayan.

The recipient students conducted a one-day orientation at Maria House before implementing the projects.

With various projects in line, GSP Commissioner on Training Fely Lattao said they are aiming to have 70 Chief GSP medalists this 2018. GSP Cagayan added that they are confident that they are active in the province.

Diwa added that girl scouts’ projects are also eyed for sustainability.

Meanwhile, GSP Cagayan also nabbed GSP’s Magic Spot award in the national level through the Calaoagan Dackel National High School Annex in Capissayan, Gattaran.

The Magic Spot is awarded to senior scouts which successfully converted an eye sore area to a tourism and and playground destination.

“Yung pagkachallenge at motivation ng mga bata that they have to do something to the environment [is our advantage]. I would say that it is intrinsic in nature mula sa mga bata… Ang GSP we really exert an effort to go on and on kasi if every year magkakaroon tayo ng multiplier effect ng mga projects na ito, we can say that we have done something for the environment,” Lattao said.

Winners and medalists were also given cash awards.

Meanwhile, Diwa said GSP Cagayan has increased membership with around 49,000 registered girls.

GSP Cagayan guested in Philippine Information Agency Region 02’s Tipon-Tipan to talk also about the Provincial Camp in Camp Amparito, Bayo, Iguig, Cagayan. Northernforum.net
