SANTIAGO CITY—The National Nutrition Council (NNC) Regional office 2 lively opens the 45th Nutrition Month at Santiago Isabela on the 1st Monday of July.
The celebration is anchored to the theme: Kumain nang wasto at maging aktibo. PUSH NATIN “TO. Maria Gisela Lonzaga, Regional Nutrition Program Coorditor, NNC 2 said that being the advocate to decrease the number of non-communicable diseases such as diabetes and hypertension. “We would also want to reduce the number of children who are overweight and obese”, says Lonzaga.
The celebration focuses on overweight and obese children of different schools. During the morning, July 1, a Fun walk and Zumba dance for different stakeholders was conducted to show awareness on overweight and obese individuals.
For the whole month, Lonzaga stated their lined up activities, the Healthy Lifestyle Symposium, a Zumba Session every Saturday at Cagayan Sports Complex and a Nurti-Kalesa Painting Contest at Tuao Cagayan.
Meanwhile, Dr. Genaro Manalo, City Nutrition Action Officer, Santiago City during an interview, “The City Commission Committee targets overweight children to emphasize that we should not only focus on the malnourished children but to the overweight as well”.
