Cagayan to hold summer sports clinic

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Cagayan hopes to continue its excellence in sports as the provincial government seeks to conduct a summer sports clinic for young and aspiring athletes this year.

In Pagdidinnamagan: Kapehan sa Kapitolyo on Monday, March 5, Governor Manuel Mamba’s Consultant on Sports Development Frances “Kiko” Kanapi said the program will help Cagayan produce future athletes and help young Cagayanos explore their potentials.

The governor’s consultant made the announcement of the program on the heels of Cagayan’s victory as overall champion for the third time in the Cagayan Valley Regional Athletic Association (CAVRAA) meet 2018.

The summer clinic, Kanapi said, will offer programs for basketball, volleyball, tennis, football, swimming, and athletics. It will be open for children five to eight years old.

A registration fee will also cover athletes’ equipment, uniforms, and jerseys.

Kanapi said Cagayano national players and international athletes, and champion coaches from CAVRAA will serve as trainors.

“Sa parents po, i-grab po natin yung opportunity sa sports clinic. Medyo mailabas po natin yung mga bata natin sa bahay natin, medyo ilayo natin yung mga bata natin sa mga gadgets, at para mailabas din ng mga potensyal ng mga anak natin,” Kanapi said.

He added that they are still looking for sponsorship for the sports program.

The program is also an effort to utilize the sports complex all-year round, Kanapi said.

“Since dun sila magtetrain sa Cagayan Sports Complex, ibibigay talaga namin sa kanila [ni Cagayan Sports Complex Administrator Archie Lorenzo] ang malinis at maayos na mga amenities natin sa complex, na walang magiging problema sa pag-stay nila dun,” Kanapi said.

Meanwhile, Kanapi also shared during Kapehan the provincial government’s plan to hold a sports fest for capitol employees.

Kanapi said an inter-town sports fest to be competed in by Cagayan’s local government units is also planned.

Further, the consultant also shared the provincial government’s plan with Cagayano winning coach Edwin Tagal to conduct a mobile sports clinic.

He said this can allow young athletes develop more their skills and abilities, adding that this can help Cagayan secure its fourth CAVRAA overall championship next year. Northernfourm.net
