TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines- Despite some drowning incidents and vehicular crashes, this year’s Holy Week was “generally peaceful,” Cagayan Valley Police said on Monday, April 2.
Police Regional Office 2 (PRO2) Regional Director Police Chief Superintendent Jose Mario Espino said in a press release that no major incidents happened during the week, except for petty crimes.
Espino attributed their report to the police’s “orderly security preparations” to “ensure safety and security of the public in churches, other holy places, and even in tourist destinations in Cagayan Valley.”
He also thanked the support of other law enforcement agencies, local government units (LGUs), radio groups, volunteers, and the public for their cooperation.
Meanwhile, PRO2 recorded 10 drowning incidents during the Holy Week. Yet, Police Regional Operations and Plans Division said drowning incidents have decreased to seven incidents or 41%, compared to the 17 drowning incidents recorded last year.
Espino said this decrease is a result of the collective efforts of the police and other law enforcement agencies such as the Bureau of Fire Protection, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, LGUs, force multipliers, and rescue volunteers.
Cagayan Valley police remain in full alert throughout the summer months and until June 13. Northernforum.net
